The Burning Wiki Logo
  • We have a new Burning Wiki logo, up in the top left of this Front Page. It's a combination of James Wickhams pictograms for 'Communal Effort' and 'Participation'. James - who holds a Creative Commons right in respect of the images - actually did the artwork for us. Our feeling is that this Logo not only reflects the combination of the two Principles most aligned with this Wiki, but is also symbolic of the energy we hope it creates.
  • A few days ago the Burning Wiki began to issue details of Burns which had been cancelled or postponed. These are now so numerous that they are best found by searching in the Burns and Burners page. Remember that the items in the list are sortable simply by clicking on the heading at the top of any column there. Remember that the situation can change rapidly and do your own research before booking travel etc.
  • We'd like to bring together all the Theme Camps in the world. Mostly because we believe that there's potential for like-minded and like-hearted Theme Camps across the world to come together and find inspiration - and even material assistance - in and from each other. It's also an opportunity for those who are contemplating creating a Theme Camp to find a mentor. And we'd like to do it because we can do it. The Burning Wiki is an aggregator of Burn related information, and the Theme Camps are an integral part of every Burn and every Burner's experience.

But here's a reality check. We estimate that there are over 5,000 Theme Camps worldwide, past and present. We also know that Theme Camps 'come and go'... they change their names, they change their 'shape' and they change their key people (and contact details). That's not a bad thing - it's an expression of the versatility and energy of Theme Camps. We can cast our net wide and capture the details of most of these Theme Camps - but with our current editorial staff levels we won't be able to tell you whether they are currently active. Where we can find one, we'll provide a link to the Theme Camp. In the cases where we can't find a link we will at least let you know which Burn they were/are associated with. The rest is up to you.

Our Theme Camp Central page has 1203 Theme Camps listed, with nearly 550 links you can follow through on. We're adding between fifty and a hundred each day, and we'll update the numbers here as we proceed.

  • You lead, we follow. There's been a huge upsurge of interest in virtual Burns, virtual Burn events and virtual Burn community forums in recent weeks. The Burning Wiki has taken it's Broadcast listing and Virtual Burn listing and created a new page, Burn Broadcasts, Podcasts & Virtual Events. It's very early days with this listing and we will experiment over the next few days to find the best format. We should have around fifty listings by next week. In case you were curious, this was one of the jobs we'd hoped to recruit a volunteer to undertake.

The Burning Wiki is on Facebook. If you need to contact us, or want to have Burning Wiki updates in your news feed this is the place to go.

Vacancy - Unpaid, Long Hours, Uncertain Reward, No Prospects. Interested?

The Burning Wiki is looking for a data obsessed Burner who likes to spend (very) long hours trawling the internet for fleeting pieces of information and bringing order to chaos.

The Burning Wiki is a Burner-principled site. You will be gifting your time and skill (and frankly a chunk of your life) with no expectation of reward or reciprocation. Your work will be largely anonymous (people who care will know...).

Some training can be given, and you will be part of a small supportive team. You will be working with MediaWiki software (the software that drives Wikipedia). We aren't particularly looking for people with backgrounds in Information Technology or Computer Programming - although we won't hold that against you.

It's the nature of the work that you will be chasing transient information across the world from hundreds if not thousands of sources. We are looking for someone who would enjoy working on a special project that could take at least (initially) six to eight hours a day, seven days a week. If you are a genius organiser you might be able to get this down to a couple of hours a day.

Note that the project you will be working on is completely new within the Burning Wiki, but will follow the format of the Burns and Burners page you'll find here. You'll see it's very 'structured' and just a bunch of 'words'. But each line is a doorway into a world of Burns and burner friendship. You will be manufacturing magic doorways...

Contact the Burning Wiki at with some kind of information about yourself and feel free to ask questions there. We'll get back to you pretty much straight away.

Contribute to the Burning Wiki

Burning Wiki is similar to, but separate from Wikipedia. Like all Wikis it's a place where all visitors are encouraged to add knowledge, and like all Burn Communities it's a Do-ocracy. One of the quickest ways to getting started creating or editing your own pages is to look at what others have done. To see the code behind each page, select 'Edit Source' once you open a page that you'd like to copy. See Help:Getting started for further information, a quick introduction to wikis, and links to resources to help you.

Step One: Create a Burner Account

Having a registered Burner Account in the Burning Wiki is a good first step. You can create a Playa Name and use that, and even a Burner Profile page for yourself. You can edit this Wiki without a Burner Account, but be warned, the Wiki will then display your computer's IP address as the 'author'. This isn't a good thing for people who like to keep their computer details private. Creating a Burner Account (at the moment) requires that you contact John Mack at the Burning Wiki facebook page. Setup will usually happen within 24 hours.
