Vacancy - Unpaid, Long Hours, Uncertain Reward, No Prospects. Interested?
The Burning Wiki is looking for a data obsessed Burner who likes to spend (very) long hours trawling the internet for fleeting pieces of information and bringing order to chaos.
The Burning Wiki is a Burner-principled site. You will be gifting your time and skill (and frankly a chunk of your life) with no expectation of reward or reciprocation. Your work will be largely anonymous (people who care will know...).
Some training can be given, and you will be part of a small supportive team. You will be working with MediaWiki software (the software that drives Wikipedia). We aren't particularly looking for people with backgrounds in Information Technology or Computer Programming - although we won't hold that against you.
It's the nature of the work that you will be chasing transient information across the world from hundreds if not thousands of sources. We are looking for someone who would enjoy working on a special project that could take at least (initially) six to eight hours a day, seven days a week. If you are a genius organiser you might be able to get this down to a couple of hours a day.
Note that the project you will be working on is completely new within the Burning Wiki, but will follow the format of the Burns and Burners page you'll find here. You'll see it's very 'structured' and just a bunch of 'words'. But each line is a doorway into a world of Burns and burner friendship. You will be manufacturing magic doorways...
Contact the Burning Wiki at firstname.lastname@example.org with some kind of information about yourself and feel free to ask questions there. We'll get back to you pretty much straight away.

Shouting Fire is an independent, international broadcasting collective, born on the playa and inspired by Burning Man. It is an open source, non-commercial community radio station operated entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to the free flow of information and to spreading art and culture.
Shouting Fire's website which includes many great links, scheduling information and their live stream can be accessed here.
Burning Wiki's list of Burner inspired broadcasts, podcasts, virtual events and forums can be accessed here

Burn2 is an Burning Man Regional Virtual space that has been - like Shouting Fire - born on the playa and inspired by Burning Man. As our Burning community explores the possibilities of virtual connection in this COVID crisis who better to turn to for advice that the people who have been doing it since 2003. I'd like to particularly draw your attention to Burn2's very useful hints and links in their Pandemic Toolkit.

Contribute to the Burning Wiki
Burning Wiki is similar to, but separate from Wikipedia. Like all Wikis it's a place where all visitors are encouraged to add knowledge, and like all Burn Communities it's a Do-ocracy. One of the quickest ways to getting started creating or editing your own pages is to look at what others have done. To see the code behind each page, select 'Edit Source' once you open a page that you'd like to copy. See Help:Getting started for further information, a quick introduction to wikis, and links to resources to help you.
Step One: Create a Burner Account
Having a registered Burner Account in the Burning Wiki is a good first step. You can create a Playa Name and use that, and even a Burner Profile page for yourself. You can edit this Wiki without a Burner Account, but be warned, the Wiki will then display your computer's IP address as the 'author'. This isn't a good thing for people who like to keep their computer details private. Creating a Burner Account (at the moment) requires that you contact John Mack at the Burning Wiki facebook page. Setup will usually happen within 24 hours.
